Accommodations
Getting Here: Taxis from the airport to anywhere on the island cost 18,000 pesos for 1 to 4 people. All of the taxi drivers speak both English and Spanish
Where to stay: As you might expect there are lots of different places to stay on the island. Most of the lodgings are in small privately owned units with 5 to 10 rooms. There are also some houses available in some of the towns along the coast. The majority of the hotels are on the west coast in the village of Agua Dulce. We are located on the west coast in Bahia Sur-Oeste. This a quiet beach where you will find typical restaurants and can arrange tours of the Pico (1000 feet /300 meters high for that day you take off from diving) and horse back riding. Every couple of weeks they have horse races on the beach too! Below is a photo of the beach in front of the hotel.
Wherever
you end up staying we will arrange to get you to the dive shop and
diving! At most locations we can pick you up at the beach.
The dive shop is associated with and is on the hotel grounds of
Sirius Hotel. Of course we would like you to check us out and I
think you will like what you see but don't feel you are restricted to
the hotel for your choice. In fact if you get here and want to
see some other places Paulino (the hotel manager) will take you around
himself so you can see what is available. While none of the
accommodations are cheap by Latin American standards they are all a
good value and comfortable. Most rooms are furnished with small
refrigerators. Below are the three hotels in our immediate area of
Bahia Sur-Oeste and one in Agua Dulce. Things have changed some
on the island over the past year. Some of the local hotels are
now booking through hotel chains to try and get better exposure
internationally. If you would like to work with a hotel other than
Sirius at this time you will have to book with them directly.
Contact us and we can work out a dive package for you. I
will provide a few links here and more information as it becomes
available.
Prices - For your convenience we are listing the prices in US dollars. We conduct all of our business in Colombian Pesos so the final price will vary some based on the exchange rate you receive. We are using the rate as of June 4th, 2007 here (1800 pesos/ dollar US). Things have been a little volatile for the US dollar lately so it is best to check . For Currency Conversions use xe.com the Universal Currency Converter http://www.xe.com/ucc/
Meals - (prices as of 06/2007) Most of the hotels offer various plans from just lodging (P.E.) or lodging plus breakfast (P.C.) to lodging, breakfast and one meal either lunch or dinner (P.A.M.). If you like one price for everything it is available. The more adventurous may want to just get a plan with breakfast and then try out the different places to eat that are available. There are several restaurants in the area within walking distance of the hotels. Breakfast generally consist of natural juice, coffee with milk, bread and eggs. For lunch and diner most of the dishes offered are centered around seafood (fish, crab or conch) and come with rice, salad and patacones (fried green plantain - kind of like french fries). Vegetarian dishes are generally available but should be arranged in advance as it is no a regular offering everyday. The average meal is 15,000 pesos with a range of 10,000 for a simple fish dish to 40,000 if you get lobster. Beers cost 1,500 to 2,000 pesos and are generally served good and cold. The Divino Niño, a small beach restaurant a short walk from the hotel, serves a seafood platter that has some of everything from seafood soup to lobster and is more than enough to feed two to three people for 35,000 pesos. Miss Imelda has a restaurant next to Hotel Miss Mary where you can get a refreshing tuna antipasto made from fresh fish as well as a full range of typical island dishes. Not to be missed while you are here is a visit to Cafe Studio where you will find along with tasty local dishes an excellent latte and without doubt some of the best pies in the Caribbean!

As the name implies Cabañas Agua Dulce is in Agua Dulce a town one beach north of us. This hotel has a pool for relaxing and a playground for the kids. Agua Dulce is the more developed tourist area (still very laid back) of the island so for those looking to add a little nightlife to their stay this area offers more opportunities. We will pick you up on the beach so you do not have to worry about travel.
